After 30 years of working with families, business owners and their professional advisors, I became convinced that the traditional approach to planning was missing something important.
Too often, planning was fragmented.
Estate planning happened in one place. Tax planning happened somewhere else. Asset protection, business succession, investments and insurance were addressed separately—if they were addressed at all.
And too often, the focus was on documents and transactions rather than people and outcomes.
I believed there was a better way.
I envisioned a planning firm that would look at a client’s entire life through a 360° lens. A firm that would bring sophisticated planning disciplines together instead of treating them as isolated problems. A firm that would combine technical excellence with creativity, foresight and genuine human understanding.
The traditional planning process is a black box. You and your financial advisors never have any idea what’s being done or where your planning is in the process. And too often, nothing is being done for long periods of time. You’re left guessing, waiting and hoping to get an email or phone call at some point.
I wanted to build a firm that has a fully visible window into the planning process so you can see what’s happening every step of the way in real-time. That vision is the Ethos Planning Tracker.
Traditional planning is a one-and-done transaction with no maintenance or follow-up. Life and laws change over time, but your planning didn’t. I believed your planning needs to keep up with changes in life and the law so that it works when it’s needed. I wanted to build a firm with a maintenance and development program that keeps your planning aligned with your life.
Most importantly, I wanted to build a firm that never forgot why the planning mattered in the first place.
Because behind every trust, business, investment, tax strategy and estate plan are people.
There are spouses to protect. Children to prepare. Businesses to preserve. Taxes that may be avoided. Risks that can be anticipated. Opportunities that can be captured. Stories worth remembering. Values worth preserving. And generations yet to come whose lives may be profoundly affected by decisions being made today.
That idea became Ethos Legacy Group.
I didn’t set out to simply build another law firm. I set out to build a better way to plan.
